Rapid Action Battalion, in separate drives, has arrested four persons with VOIP equipments in Chittagong city’s Rahattarpul and Chawakbazar areas on Tuesday morning.
The arrestees were Tareq, 28, Zahed, 32, Shahedul Haque, 38 and Jia 25, said RAB 7 sources.
RAB seized the VOIP equipments worth around TK7 lakh from their possessions, said Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mobassher Hossain of RAB 7.
The ASP said acting on a tip-off a team of RAB 7 conducted drives at II Tower located at DC road area under Chawakbazar police station around 10am and held Shahedul and Jia.
Later RAB conducted another drive at a four-storied residential house at Kalamia Bazar area of Rahattarpul under Bakalia police station.
ASP Mobassher said RAB personnel seized the machines from the second floor of the building and held Tareq and Zahed red handed.
Zahed is an expatriate and he managed the business from outside the country while Tarek assisted Zahed to operate the business in the local area, said the ASP.
During primary interrogation the duo confessed that they were running the illegal business since the last three years.
Two cases were under process in this connection.
On Monday, Panchlaish police, in a drive, arrested three persons and seized VOIP equipment worth about Tk13 lakh.
