The government probe body formed under the directive of the High Court to investigate into the Narayanganj seven murders will quiz Director General (DG) of the Rapid Action Battalion Mokhlesur Rahman at 2.30pm today.
The RAB DG was given notice yesterday to appear before the interrogation cell at the probe body chief’s secretariat office.
“Not only the RAB DG, the body will also interrogate some more people including several law enforcement agency members and detained RAB member who tried to commit suicide after his arrest,” Probe Body Chief Shahjahan Ali Mollah, also the Public Administration Ministry Additional Secretary, said.
He is expecting to submit the probe report to the High Court by October after completion of a six-month investigation.
“The investigation is now at its final stage. But we are trying to quiz some more people to make sure that the probe is flawless.”
Shahjahan Ali Mollah said the probe body had already quizzed around 400 people including the Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy, Narayanganj MP Shamim Osman, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Zillar Rahman, Dhaka Range DIG of Police Mahfuzul Haq Nuruzzaman, Additional Director General of RAB Ziaul Ahsan and some other influential persons.
“We have planned to interrogate the RAB DG, the chief of the elite force, as most of the accused in the incident are RAB members. We have come to know that a section of the RAB high officials had prior knowledge about the incident.
“However, the DG denied the allegation at a press conference. We will take his statement,” he added.
He also said the probe body will quiz some senior high officials and other persons allegedly involved in the killing. The body intends to quiz the persons whose names came up in the confessional statements of the accused during police interrogation.
“We are trying to submit the report by October. We requested the court earlier to allow us four more weeks. But, the court is yet to give any order. We will submit our request to the court for time extension as the offices will remain closed due to the Eid-Ul Azha and Durga Puja holiday.”
Shahjahan Mollah said the probe body intended to quiz main suspected accused Nur Hossain in Kolkata earlier but later the plan was changed taking into consideration the strong move of the government to bring him back.
The probe body will quiz him after he is brought home before the submission of the probe report.
On April 27, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, three of his aides and driver, and senior lawyer Chandan Sarkar and his driver were kidnapped from the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road. Three days later, six bodies were found floating in the Shitalakkhya.
The seventh body was recovered from the river the next day.
