A mobile court of the Chittagong district administration has sealed off a medicine factory in the city's Khulshi area for producing substandard medicines in an unhygienic environment.

The mobile court raided the factory, Pharmik Laboratories Limited, around 11am and ended the drive at 4pm.

The magistrate said: “We also seized all the machines of the factory while the workers were released after a brief detention as they are only salary paid staff.”

“The court found that the medicine factory located at a five-storied building is producing substandard medicines in unhealthy atmosphere and a huge number of date expired medicines were also seized from the building.”

Second-in-Command of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB7) Chandgaon Camp Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) SM Mobashwer Hossain said a team of RAB 7 assisted the mobile court. “Some 150 employees were working at the illegal factory, owned by one Mirza Ahmed Robin Ispahani.”

“The factory has the permission to produce a few types of medicines while they used to produce 15 to 16 types of substandard medicines,” he added.

The Pharmik Group claimed that the factory is a “ISO 9001:2008 certified company ” however, they failed to show any document in support of their claim during the drive.
