Fugitive doctor surrenders

Physician Moshiur Rahman was sent to jail by Dhaka court yesterday, who earlier along with another doctor escaped from the dock of a courtroom after it rejected their bail in a graft case.

Dhaka senior special judge court’s Acting Judge Ruhul Amin passed the order after Moshiur Rahman surrendered before the court. Earlier on August 27, Dr Moshiur Rahman and Dr Atiur Rahman escaped from the dock of the courtroom.

Dr Atiur Rahman had surrendered on September 7 while Dr Moshiur Rahman remained at large until yesterday.

On that day, the court also rejected the bail petitions of four former DMCH officials and a trader in a graft case filed for embezzling Tk 2.31 crore in machinery purchase.

The five are DMCH ex-director Bazle Qader, its ex-deputy director Foyzullah, and two former accounts officers both named Nazrul Islam and surgical instrument supplier Habib Traders’ Proprietor Habibur Rahman.

On September 16, court indicted former DMCH director Brig Gen (retd) Bazle Quader and six others accused.

According to the case details, the accused in connivance with each other misappropriated Tk 2.31 crore from surgical machinery purchase.

Anti-Corruption Commission filed the corruption case with Shahbagh police on November 16, 2011.

The charge sheet was submitted to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on May 15 this year. Later it was sent to the Dhaka’s Senior Special Judge’s Court for trial.
