A schoolteacher has been left with a permanent physical disability as her husband cut off her right hand wrist with a machete at Uttar Chapain Moholla in Dhaka’s Savar municipality yesterday.
Victim 25-year-old Sabina Akter, who teaches at a local Brac school, has been admitted to Enam Medical College and Hospital. An on-duty doctor called Nazim Uddin at Enam Medical Hospital said her wrist could not be replanted because she was not brought here with her wrist before six hours passed after which it is impossible to restore an organ.
Victim Sabina Akter said she was married off to Hira Mia, a garment worker, who hails from Sherpur, around one and a half year ago, but her husband secretly married again within within a few months of their marriage.
The second marriage soon came to light giving rise to quarrel between them almost every day. Still, they had been living together at the same rented house together. They were engaged in a quarrel as usual yesterday, when her husband flew into a rage and hit her with the machete, she said, Savar model police station Officer-in-Charge Mostofa Kamal confirmed this incident and said they would take necessary action about this.
