Police arrested a man with with 8,000 pieces of yaba yesterday at a residential hotel in Chunoti area, under Lohagora upazila in Chittagong.
The arrested, Abdur Rahim, 25, was on his way to Chittagong city to trade the drugs with another yaba dealer and had made a pit stop at Midway Residential Hotel in Chunoti, when police raided the hotel and arrested him, said Mohammad Shahjahan, officer-in-charge of Lohagora police station.
“We raided the hotel around 6pm on a tip-off. We found Rahim with the yaba pills, worth around Tk16 lakh,” he said.
Rahim, who has been involved with yaba dealing for a while, collected the pills from Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar and struck the deal with the dealer in the city, whose name he could not tell, over phone, the OC added.
A case was filed with Lohagara police station in this regard, he said.
Lohagara, located close to the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway, is a popular route among yaba smugglers.
There are 37 yaba factories in Mongdu city of Myanmar, close to the border in Teknaf, from where yaba is smuggled into the country, said Chowdhury Imrul Hasan, superintendent of Chittagong Metro region at the Department of Narcotics Control.
