A Joypurhat court has handed down death penalty to a man for killing his wife for dowry.
Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 2 Judge Mijanur Rahman pronounced the verdict on Tuesday morning.
The convict is Mokarram Hossain, hailed from Dharki Sotahar village under the sadar upazila.
The court also acquitted Afzal Hossain, father of Mokarram, from the murder case.
On April 27, 1999, Mokarram strangulated his wife Ruliya Begum for dowry.
Victim’s uncle Enamul Haque filed a murder case in this connection on the next day.
