A suspected robber has received bullet injuries in a “gunfight” between the law enforcers and his cohorts in Mahamudpur area under Bagherpara upazila of Jessore.
The suspected robber, Abdul Karim, has been admitted at Jessore Medical College Hospital under police custody.
Bagherpara police station Offiocer-in-Charge Qaiyum Ali Shikdar said: “Acting on a tip-off, a team of Bagherpara police raided Mahamudpur area around 11:30pm, while a gang of robbers were taking preparation to loot a jewellery shop.”
“Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers hurled some crude bombs at police. In retaliation, police opened fire on them, triggering a gunfight that left Karim injured with bullet.”
The OC added that the police also arrested seven other robbers and seized a shutter gun, two crude bombs, some home-made sharp weapons and one round of bullet from the scene.
A case was filed in this connection.
