A local robber was to have killed reportedly in a gunfight between police and his accomplices in Aminpur area of Manirampur upazila early yesterday.
In the incident, two police constables named Nazrul and Prabir were injured as well.
The shootout gunned down Osman Dofadar, 28, who was accused in seven cases filed for robbery.
Manirampur police station OC Mollah Khabir Ahmed said they arrested Osam from Fakirer Rastar moorh on Saturday noon and based on his information, a team of police conducted a raid on the house of one of his cohorts named Babu in the area around 3am and recovered one shutter gun, two rounds of bullet and one crude bomb.
At one stage, Osman’s accomplices attacked the team with firing gun shots and hurling crude bombs while it was on the way of returning back the police station, triggering the fierce gunfight that left him dead and the policemen injured. Osman, son of Azibor Darafdar, a resident of the area, has long been engaged in robbery in the district.
The body was sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
