Update : 10 Sep 2014, 07:03 PM

The International Crimes Tribunal 1 yesterday adjourned the trial of Jamaat-e-Islami leader ATM Azharul Islam upon a defence plea and asked them to complete the legal arguments in one hour on Sunday.

The defence was supposed to conclude the legal argument part yesterday, but counsel Shishir Monir around 11:45pm pleaded for adjournment saying that he had to appear before the apex court at noon.

Hearing the verbal plea, the tribunal adjourned the trial until Sunday. It also asked the prosecution to submit their rebuttal, if any, after conclusion of the defence argument that day.

Before that, defence counsel Abdus Subhan Tarafder placed arguments on the prosecution’s documents. At that time, the tribunal also made some comments on the investigation process and the prosecution’s scrutiny. The tribunal asked the prosecution to explain these during the rebuttal.

At the tribunal 2, the defence of Jamaat leader Maulana Abdus Subhan concluded the cross-examination of 28th witness Md Fazlul Haque.

Defence counsel Mizanul Islam questioned him for one and a half hours and the tribunal adjourned the trial until September 14.
