A 20-year-old housewife has allegedly been beaten to death by her husband for giving birth to a female child at Betgara village under Gobindaganj upazila in Gaibandha.
The victim, Shakila Begum, was married to Al Amin of the village.
Quoting the victim’s family member Gobindaganj police station Officer-in-Charge ABM Zahidul Islam said: “Al Amin beat his wife as she gave birth to a dark-skinned female child. At one point, he poured poison in Shakila’s mouth and fled the house early Tuesday.”
He said: “On information, police recovered the body from the house and sent to Gaibandha sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.”
However, Al Amin’s family members claimed that Shakila committed suicide, added the OC.
