3 policemen hurt in Cox’s Bazar gunfight

At least four people, including three policemen, have received injuries in a gunfight between police and yaba smugglers in the district town early Tuesday.

Of the injured, Sub-inspector Titu Datta of the district Detective Branch (DB) of police and yaba trader Nazrul Islam, 31, son of Abul Hossain of Teknaf, were admitted to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.

Officer-in-charge of DB Manjurul Alam said they had secret information that some smugglers were selling yaba in the district jail area on the Bypass Road in the district town.

A team of plainclothes police launched a drive in the area around 3am.

When the police team challenged the yaba traders, the criminals opened fire on the law enforcers, promoting the law enforces to fire back leaving three policemen, including SI Titu and Yaba smuggler Nazrul, injured.

Nazrul was undergoing treatment with bullet injuries under police custody.

The DB team also recovered 2,050 pieces of yaba tablet, one LG and two rounds of cartridge from the spot.
