A suspected robber has been killed in a “gunfight” with police in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased is Khorshed Alam, 38.
Noakhali Additional Police Super MS Ashrafuzzaman said: “Acting on a tip-off, we arrested Khorshed from Narayanganj with the help of Rupganj police of the district.”
Later, Khorshed was taken to Noakhali. His associates attacked police when they went to recover firearms at Chatkhail Palla Bazar area in the early hours of the day, he said.
The official said the miscreants tried to snatch away Khorshed.
At a stage, Khorshed's associates opened fire at the law enforcers, prompting the latter to fire back, triggering a gunfight.
Ashrafuzzaman said Khorshed died in his associates' firing.
Meanwhile, four police members were injured in the incident.
He was wanted in 30 cases, including for murder, robbery and arms, the police super said.
