A woman has been hacked to death by her husband at Nayapara under Sreepur upazila in Gazipur early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Parvin Akhter, 30, wife of Fazlul Haque.
Sreepur police station Sub-inspector Farid Hossain said: “Fazlul hacked his wife with a sharp weapon at one stage of altercation over dowry around 3:30am, leaving Parvin dead on the spot.”
Fazlul also hacked his mother-in-law Anwara Begum when she attempted to stop him. She was admitted in Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The accused fled the scene soon after the incident, SI Farid said.
Parvin’s father Ali Hossain said Fazlul had borrowed a lot of money. He often asked Parvin for bringing money from her parents to pay the debt.
"He also threatened to divorce Parvin for the money. They had an argument over it and Fazlul brutally killed my daughter," Ali Hossain said.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Gazipur sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
None was arrested in this connection till filing the report at 12pm.
