Customs officials have detained a person with 18 gold bars weighing 2.1kg at Sylhet MAG Osmani International Airport on Saturday afternoon.
Abdul Mubin, assistant commissioner of customs at the airport, said they also seized 17 mobile handsets and 414 pieces of SIM cards searching luggage of the person, who arrived at the airport by a Dubai flight.
The seized valuables are worth around Tk77 lakh, said the customs official.
The detainee is Joynal Abedin, 35, son of Ishak Ali of Sylhet's Jakiganj upazila.
The process was underway to hand over the detainee to Sylhet Airport police station, customs officials said.
