A mobile court has fined Tk1.35 lakh to three popular and renowned restaurants in Chittagong on Thursday afternoon.
The court brought charges of unhygienic environment, realising additional charge and lower quality of foods to the customers.
The court, led by Executive Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain of Chittagong district administration, along with officials of district administration and Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institutions (BSTI), conducted the drive at Oh Chittagong, Red Chili and Handi in the city from 11:30am to 2:30pm.
Rakib Hasan, assistant commissioner of Chittagong district administration said: “The court fined ‘Oh Chittagong’ with Tk45,000 for cooking foods in unhygienic environment and providing lower quality of foods while Red Chili and Handi for realising additional charges for fixed rate foods from the consumers.”
Sensing the presence of the mobile court in Red Chili, the adjoining other eateries named Royal Hut, Rodela Bikel, KGN and the others closed down their restaurants, reports this correspondent.
“The district administration will continue such drives to ensure best services for consumers in the restaurants of the city,” the official added.
