Man arrested at Dhaka airport, 1.5kg gold seized

Customs officials arrested a man along with three bars of gold, weighing 1.5 kilogrammes, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital yesterday morning.

MA Rashid, 47, was a passenger of BG-087 flight that arrived in Dhaka from Malaysia at 6:00 am.

The customs officials also seized 700 grammes of gold from four other passengers of the same flight as they were carrying more gold than the amount permitted by the relevant law. The four were set free after realising fine, said Customs Intelligence Assistant Director Umme Nahida Akter.

The market price of gold which had been carried illegally is Tk1.10 crore, she added. As per the rules, a passenger can carry 200 grams of gold.
