Police arrested two college students with 1,000 pieces of Yaba tablets from Chittagong’s Bakalia area yesterday.
The detained are Minhajul Islam, 19, student of Chittagong Government City College in Satkania upazila, Chittagong and Atikul Islam Tareque, 19, student of Chittagong Model College in Teknaf upazila, Cox’s Bazar.
The duo have been arrested from Kala Miya Bazar area around 6am while they were entering the city with the contraband items, said Bakalia police station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Mohsin.
“We found 500 pieces of Yaba s from tablets each of them after searching their bodies. They are mainly involved in carrying Yaba from Teknaf to the port city,” he said.
The Teknaf based Yaba smugglers use the students for carrying the Yaba tablets to Chittagong. In Chittagong, they hand over the items to another group who later hand over the items to the wholesalers who supply the items to customers around the city.
Communication between all the associates is done over mobile phone while the monetary transaction is done via bKash, said the OC.
A case had been lodged with Bakalia police station in this connection, he said.
In recent time, law enforcers recovered huge quantity of yaba from different parts of the port city.
