Update : 03 Aug 2014, 09:08 PM

A gang leader was held along with his four associates yesterday at the capital’s Islambagh following a gunfight with law enforcers.

Local people and police said Arman Hossain alias Dano, 22, Rubel Hossain alias Pichchhi Rubel, 22, Al Amin, 23, and Rabbi, 19, were members of a gang in Islambagh, Chawkbazar, Shgahidbagh and different places in the capital.

The group leader Rabbi owned a shop of scraps goods at a slum in Islambagh in front of Ershad Colony.

Azizul Islam, officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar police station, said the police went to arrest the criminals at the colony when they hurled several bombs at them, causing the police to retaliate.

Rabbi sustained bullet injury during the fight and police arrested him. Three cops were also injured at that time.  The OC said they had arrested the other youths as they tried to snatch the detained.

The detained were accused in several cases including killing, mugging and extortion. On July 18, they allegedly killed one of their gang members named Roni, 20, following an internal feud over the sharing of snatched material
