Abducted man’s body recovered in Rangamati

The decomposed body of a man, who was allegedly abducted last Monday, was recovered from Naniachar Betchhari area in Rangamati yesterday.

Chandan Kumar Tripura, a resident of Khagrapur in Khagrachhari, went missing on Monday after he and two others set off for Mahalchhari on his motorbike around 8pm. He could not be reached over the phone.

On Saturday, the abductors went to Naniachar Betchhari to sell the motorcycle but managed to flee before police and locals arrived there. Police arrested the buyer.       

Chandan’s father Puja Kumar Tripura and brother, Rubel Tripura, combed the area where the motorcycle was seized yesterday, with the help of the locals, and discovered the body within a thousand yards.

Officer-in-Charge of Khagrachhari police station Md Mizanur Rahman confirmed the recovery of the body.     

Chandan’s father said he received an anonymous call last Tuesday, where the caller demanded a ransom of Tk50,000 and also threatened dire consequences. 

Family members suspect he was kidnapped and was killed when the ransom was not paid. 

In a separate incident, a woman was stabbed to death on Saturday night at her house in Gachhban Amrito Para in Bhaibonchhara union of Khagrachhari Sadar upazila.    

Rachana Debi Tripura, 56, was the wife of Sambhonath Roaja, who married twice. He was with his second wife in Madhubazar when the incident happened.

She went to bed in her room at midnight and her son discovered the body yesterday morning when he went into the room to charge his mobile phone. He found a knife stuck in her throat.   

Resident doctor of Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital Sanjib Tripura said the woman bore injury marks on her throat and elsewhere.
