Two abductees rescued

Police yesterday said they had rescued an abducted young girl and a youth in separate drives while arresting three alleged abductors, including a woman, in the capital and Gazipur on Saturday night.

Shikha Chowdhury, 17, and Abdul Kader Liton, 28, were rescued alive while the detained abductors were Sohel Rana alias Sumon, 30, Parvin, 45, and Mintu.

At a press briefing at the media centre of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), joint commissioner (detective branch) Monirul Islam said Shikha was kidnapped on May 6 from Dakkhinkhan.

“The abductors also forced her into prostitution by confining her to a house in Tongi”, he said, adding: “Parvin and Mintu were arrested for kidnapping Shikha.”

“Liton was abducted on July 21 from Motijheel and the kidnappers demanded Tk10 lakh in ransom,” said Monirul.

The joint commissioner said officials rescued Liton after arresting Sumon from Tongi Bazar.

Besides, in a separate move, police arrested six members of an alleged gang of robbers with a huge quantity of robbed materials in Jatrabari.

They detainees were Ratan alias Kalu, 25, Enamul Haque, 22, Jasim Uddin, 26, Khalek alias Masud, 32, Shahidul Islam, 42, and Jasim Uddin, 26.

At yesterday's briefing, detective branch officials said the six would commit robberies by stopping trucks on roads.
