Pirates abducted five fishermen and two fishing boats from Meghna river under Hatiya upazila in Noakhali on Thursday morning.
The abducted fishermen are Alauddin Maji, Nurul Hoque, Sahabuddin Maji, Jobiul Hoque and Salauddi. They are inhabitants of Char Ishawar village of Char Ishwar union.
Owners of the boats, Md. Mijan and Shahadat, said the abducted fishermen went to the river to catch Hilsa fish at 11 pm on Wednesday night from Charking ghat. At 5 am, when they were returning, pirates blocked their way and abducted them along with their boats and fish. Seven of the fishermen managed to escape as they jumped into the river and swam to the riverbank. They then informed the boat owners about the incident.
Sayed Fazleh Rabbi, officer-in-charge of Hatiya police station said: “I sent my men to investigate the incident further.
