The body of a 13-year old child, who was kidnapped 12 days ago, has been recovered from Basherpul area of Demra in the capital on Tuesday morning.
The deceased is Mohammad Hassan, son of driver Anwar Hossain Anu and a student of class VIII of a local school.
The body was found in a sack with hands and legs tied, Demra police station inspector Sirajul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune.
Earlier on July 10, Hassan was kidnapped from nearby his residence in Konapara area of Demra in the capital.
Later, the kidnappers demanded Tk5 lakh ransom from Anwar to release his son, Sirajul said.
He also said: “After demanding Tk5 lakh, abductors told him to come to Mawa Ghat with Tk40,000.”
Anwar with DB police went to Mawa Ghat but the kidnappers switched off their cell phone. Later, they did not contact with Anwar, Jahangir said.
On Monday, kidnappers again contacted Anwar and then police arrested Belal and Shahjahan for their alleged involvement with the abduction.
After interrogating, police recovered the body, said the inspector.
Police are trying to identify the gang, involved in the kidnapping.
“The kidnappers killed Hassan when police identified them. Hassan was strangled and then pulled into the sack with hands and legs tied,” Deputy Commissioner of DB police (East) Jahangir Hossain Matubbor told the Dhaka Tribune.
The body was sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
Anwar filed a case with Demra police station in this regard.
Later, the case was transferred to Detective Branch of police.
