The Customs Department officials have recovered 270 gold bars weighing around 31kg from inside two seats and a washroom of a flight of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
Two persons -- Mohammad Ali and Shariful Islam -- were also arrested in this connection.
The gold bars were recovered from a flight of the national flag carriar Biman Bangladesh Airlines immediate after it had landed at Dhaka airport from Thailand around 3:30pm.
Customs Commissioner Hossain Ahmed said: “Half of the 31kg gold was recovered from inside two seats of a flight of the Biman and the rest half from one of its washroom."
He added: “We had information that the smuggled gold bars had been hiding inside the washroom. But we searched the entire flight thoroughly and found around 16kg gold inside two seats.”
In another haul, the Customs officials seized 8 more gold bars weighing to 4.4kg by arresting Amirul immediate after his arrival at Dhaka on a flight of the Malaysian Airlines from Malaysia around 1am, said Commissioner Hossain Ahmed.
Besides, in the third haul, the CIID personnel seized 50 gold bars weighing to 5.8kg by arresting Iqbal Hossain immediate after his arrival at Dhaka airport from Dubai on a flight of the Qatar Airways at around 2:30am, said Moinul Khan, Director General of the CIID.
