The accused in the alleged rape and murder of a Kafrul schoolgirl, Mujibor, 20, gave his deposition under section-164 before a Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court yesterday. He denied raping the victim.
In his deposition, the accused said he had been involved with the victim for a long time and had had physical relations with her many times. Mujibor said he would enter the victim's house whenever the victim's family members were out for work.
Mujibor claimed the victim's family members were completely unaware of their relationship. But his sister-in-law Shirin knew about it from the beginning. On the day of the killing, Mujibor went into the house and got into a fight with the victim. At one stage, he grabbed the victim by the throat, but Mujibor never thought she would die. The victim kicked Mujibor while he was strangling her, causing him to be electrocuted by the open wires hanging from the wall and losing consciousness.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Emdadul Haque recorded Mujibor's deposition and ordered him to be sent to jail.
“The accused proposed to my sister once but she refused. I heard Mujibor tell his sister-in-law that he would kill my sister one day. Finally, he has taken revenge,” the victim’s brother Kabir Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune.
Kabir said: “My sister never had any relationship with Mujibor. If she had, then she would have told her sister-in-law Mahima. Mujibor is lying to save his life.”
He claimed that his sister was raped before she was killed. Her body was taken to Kishoreganj district for burial yesterday.
The morgue sources said, the victim was raped before the killing. Besides, the officials said the accused has been defiantly lying as the victim has no physical relationship earlier.
The hospital has kept the DNA sample and the rape kit sample of the victim.
Assistant professor of DMCH Forensic Department said Dr Sohel Mahmud: “In a rape case, the DNA sample of the criminal is also needed in order to ensure a perfect report.”
The Damalkoth High School class VII schoolgirl was allegedly raped and killed by her neighbor, Mujibor, in the capital’s Kafrul area on Wednesday.
Sub-Inspector of Kafrul police station Mainuddin told the Dhaka Tribune: “Police broke the main door to enter the flat where the girl lived and recovered the body. She was then taken to the hospital.”
Doctors at Dhaka Medical Collage Hospital declared the victim dead around 3:30pm on Wednesday.
Kabir Hossain said: “My wife and I work at a garment factory. Yesterday we went to work while my mother, Sufia Begum, who is a domestic worker, also went out, leaving my sister alone at home.
“Our neighbor Mujibor entered the house and raped her before strangling her to death,” he added.
Mujibor was also admitted to the hospital on Wednesday.
Sufia told the Dhaka Tribune: “Around 11am, I came back home but nobody was opening the door. Later, I saw Mujibor and my daughter lying in the room through the window. Police came and broke the lock around 11.45am.”
Kabir filed a case against Mujibor with Kafrul police station in this connection.
Sub Inspector of the police station Masud Rana, who is also the investigation officer of the case, told the Dhaka Tribune: “The matter of rape is not clear. But the accused was presented before court. Mujibor is a sanitary mechanic.”
Masud said: “The investigation is in progress. After getting the medical reports, we will be able to confirm whether or not the victim was raped.”
