Update : 28 Jun 2014, 01:45 PM

A college girl has allegedly been abducted by her ex-husband from Kalibari Mor area in the Barisal city on Saturday afternoon.

The abductee, Ismat Jahan Swapna, a master's final year examinee Government Brojo Mohun College, has been picked up around 1:10pm on her way back home from the examination centre of Barisal Government College.

Family members said a group of some unidentified miscreants abducted Swapna on gun-point and left the spot by a private car.

Later, Shahjahan Khan, maternal uncle of the victim, lodged a case with Barisal Kotwali police station in this connection.

According to the case statement, Swapna's ex-husband, Asadul Islam Prince abducted her with the help of the miscreants.

Family members said Swapna and Asadul got married in 2010.

They got divorced three months ago as Asadul was “unemployed, a drug-addict and characterless”. He used to beat up Swapna as well.

Golam Rouf Khan, deputy commissioner of (south) Barisal Metropolitan Police, told the Dhaka Tribune: “A message has been sent to all the police stations in this connection. The highway police and police members on all check posts have been kept on alert in order to rescue the girl.”
