SUST student assaulted by stalker

Police have arrested a man and his sister for assaulting and trying to abduct a female student from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).

Kawser Ahmed, a resident of Habiganj and a graduate of Chittagong University and his sister, a third year student of the same university, were held by police on Friday afternoon from SUST campus.

At Jalalabad Police Station, Kawser has claimed to the police that he and the victim are neighbours, they had become acquintances on Facebook and he had a relationship with her.

According to witnesses and sources at the campus, Kawser's sister called on the victim, a final year anthropology student on Friday afternoon and brought her outside the dorm where Kawser met her.

Kawser and his sister at point during this meeting tried to get her on a rickshaw. When she refused, they assaulted her together. Mathematics department's Prof Sajedul Karim, teachers' association President Prof Shamsul Alam and Proctor Rashed Talukder, who were walking by, rushed to her rescue.

They seized Kawser and put him under the guard of security officers in the vice chancellor's office building until police detained him and his sister.

Jalalabad Police Station's Officer-in-Charge Akhter Hossain said a case would be filed soon in the Women and Children Repression Act against the two.

The victim has also given us a statement,” he said.
