Pregnant woman injured in Jessore bomb blast

A pregnant woman has been injured in a bomb explosion at Ulasi village, Sarsa upzila, Jessore on Friday morning.

Halima Begum, 26, wife of Shahidul Islam, is now undergoing treatment at Sarsa Upazila Health Complex in critical state.

Farida Yasmin, sister of the victim, said: “A bomb exploded with a loud bang around 9am. She was cutting straw for her cattle in her backyard. Hearing her screams, neighbouring people rushed to the spot and found her in a critical state.”

Kajol Mallick, a doctor at the emergency department of the health complex, said: “The woman is now under observation. We will have know more about her condition after 24 hours.”

Sub-Inspector of Sarsa police station Murad Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune that police had visited the spot. A bomb splinter hit the abdomen of the expecting mother.

She is undergoing treatment gynecologists because she is pregnant.”

He said the bomb might have been kept in the backyard of the house for subversive activities.

We will look into the matter,” he added.
