Detectives on Friday arrested a man for raping a college student for around seven months after confining her to an isolated house at Ratanpur Kashem Bazar village in Sakhipur upazila, Tangail.
The arrestee was identified as Badal Miah, 41, from Ratanpur Kashem Bazar village. Badal is known to identify himself as the organising secretary of Tangail district unit of “Bangabandhu Joy Bangla League.”
A team of Detective Branch of police picked up Badal around 11 am, said Sakhipur police station OC Maksudul Alam.
The victim alleged that Badal took her to the isolated house on January 11 promising to get her married to her boyfriend. However, he confined her to the house, where he kept her drugged at all times and raped her for the last seven months.
He did not provide adequate food to the victim and fed her juice, bread, biscuits and cake that was always laced with sedatives.
On July 30, some children heard the victim screaming inside the house while they were playing nearby and informed their parents.
Later, locals rescued the victim by breaking open the door, finding her in a weakened state.
She was first taken to Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex where doctors referred her to Tangail General Hospital.
Following the incident, the victim’s brother filed a case against Badal with Sakhipur police station.
