An activist of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, youth wing of BNP, was shot dead by unidentified miscreants at Sheikhati area in Jessore town Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Maruf Hossain, 28, an activist of Juba Dal and also owner of a grocery shop at High Court Mor area in the town. He was son of Ayub Hossain and also the younger brother of Nawapara union council chairman Altaf Hossain.
Police and witnesses said there were three to four armed criminals who entered Maruf’s shop around 10:15pm while he attending his shop.
At one stage, they shot Maruf and hurled crude bombs, leaving him critically injured.
He was rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital where the attending doctor declared him dead. Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Jessore Kotwali model police station, said on information police went to the spot and recovered the body.
Later, the body was sent to the hospital morgue. High officials of police visited the spot. No case was lodged and no one was arrested, said Shahidul Islam.
Ashraful Kabir Sumon, vice- president, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, central committee told the Dhaka Tribune that Maruf was an active activist of Juba Dal.
