Detective Branch (DB) of Police personnel have recovered 80 pieces of smuggled gold bars weighing around 9 kilograms, at the capital’s Purana Paltan area early hours of Tuesday.
Police also arrested two alleged smugglers in this connection. The detainees are Md Shamsuddin, 50, and Kamrul Islam, 48.
Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner at the Media Centre of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said a team of DB personnel arrested two smugglers with 80 gold bars.
He also said the details regarding the gold recovery would be described at a press briefing in the DMP media centre.
However, sources at the DB said the recovery of the 80 pieces of gold bars and arrest of 2 smugglers were made following the arrest of 10 suspects of a gang of gold smugglers with 70 pieces of gold bars weighing around 8kgs and currencies of different countries worth Tk 35 lakh from the same area on June 2.
