Customs officials found his behaviour to be suspicious as he passed the green channel. When he was interrogated and his carry-on bag searched, 300gm of gold was found in 36 chains and four rings.
A thorough search of his luggage revealed three laptops, three cameras, nine smartphones, and eight cartons (1600 sticks) of import-restricted foreign cigarettes. None of these were declared at the customs.
The cache is valued at around Tk 20lakh.
The smuggler has been identified as Md Chan Mia, passport no BH-0143767 from Keraniganj landed at midnight on Air Asia Airlines flight AK-071.
The customs officials have taken legal actions.
Customs Intelligence Director General Moinul Khan confirmed the seizure.
