Siddique’s rescue: Police form 5-member body

A five-member combined committee comprising of the DMP Police, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and Detective Branch, has been formed to accelerate the search operation to rescue Bela chief Rizwana’s husband Siddique.

Qamrul Ahsan, senior information officer at the police headquarters, told the Dhaka Tribune that headed by Sheikh Mohammad Maruf Hassan, additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), the committee has been formed by the Police Department on Thursday afternoon, a day after the abduction of the lawyer-entrepreneur.

Other members of the committee are Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB), Major Mohammad Sadidiqur Rahman, deputy director of Rab 3, Mohammad Sazzadur Rahman, additional superintendent of police in Narayanganj and Abdul Mannan, additional superintendent of police in Police Headquarters.

The senior information officer said Mohammad Sazzadur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police in Narayanganj would act as the member secretary of the committee.

"The five-member committee was formed to assist the investigation officer of the case, to supervise the investigation process and taking coordinated efforts to rescue the victim," Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and also the head of the committee Sheikh Mohammad Maruf Hasan said.

Earlier the Narayanganj district police also formed a 12-member committee headed by Mohammad Sazzadur Rahman, additional superintendent of police in Narayanganj. 

AB Siddique was abducted by seven to eight unidentified miscreants from Narayanganj on Wednesday afternoon.

Later, his wife Syeda Rizwana Hasan filed a case with Fatulla police station accusing seven unnamed persons on the same day.
