A father allegedly beat his elder son to death in the Bagichartek area of Rampura in the capital yesterday.
The deceased Mohammad Alam 21, was the son of a CNG driven auto-rickshaw driver Dulal Mia, a resident of Bagichartek of Rampura in the city.
Aleya Begum, the deceased’s mother, said her son had married eight months ago. However, Dulal was not happy with his son’s marriage and often used to fight with Alam to leave the girl.
Alam brought his wife to his home on Tuesday night as his father, Dulal was out. However, Dulal came back home late at night and noticed his daughter-in-law’s presence in the home. At this, Dulal got furious and started quarrelling with Alam.
At one stage of the altercation, Dulal beat up Alam indescriminately, leaving him critical injured.
Alam was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor later declared him dead around 5:00am in the morning, she added.
When contacted, Alamgir Hossain Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Rampura police station, told the Dhaka Tribune that the father of the victim fled the scene soon after the incident occurred and they are still searching for him. Process of filing a case regarding the murder with the police station is underway and they are hopeful of arresting the accused shortly, he added.
