Tk50 lakh demanded from ex-JaPa MP

Update : 13 Apr 2014, 07:05 PM

Unidentified miscreants have demanded Tk50 lakh from former Jatiya Party lawmaker from Satkhira and former whip in the House Golam Reza by sending him a shroud and a crude bomb.

The former lawmaker yesterday filed a general diary (GD) with Kafrul police station in the capital after he had received the objects at his residence in Senpara Parbota on Saturday night.

Sub-inspector Prem Das Roy of Kafrul police station said police visited Reza’s residence and talked to him after the GD had been filed.

Quoting the GD, the SI said the criminals had sent the shroud and the bomb in a packet of sweetx around 9:30pm on Saturday. The box also contained a letter.

“In the letter, the senders identified themselves as the men of one Shahar Ali and asked the former legislator to pay them Tk50 lakh. They said four of their brothers had been languishing in jail for long but none was helping them in this regard,” said Prem Das, adding: “The letter also asked Reza not to disclose the matter to police, threatening that he would face the worst consequence otherwise.”

Golam Reza told police that two people, identifying themselves as Dolan and Shahid, had also made separate phone calls to tell him about the box of sweet.
