Local arbitrators have prevented a man from lodging a case in connection with sexual assault on his six-year-old son by a neighbouring youth.
The disturbing incident took place at Choumuhon village in Baraigram upazila of the district on Tuesday and the victim is now undergoing treatment in a local clinic.
“My son was alone in the house at noon when an 18-year-old youth living nearby invited him over to have biscuits. When my son went there, he then dragged him to bed and assaulted him. When my son began yelling, some locals came in, recovered him and took him to a local clinic,” said the victim’s father.
The father said he attempted to file a case in this connection but local arbitrators Maznu, Kalam, Shohrab and Litu asked him not to go to the police. “They asked me to compromise it within us.”
Kalam told the Dhaka Tribune they forced the father not to lodge any case as mutual compromise between the two families would be better in this regard.
Ibrahim Hossain, officer-in-charge of Baraigram police station, said no arbitrators had any right to ask anyone not to file a case.
“If we receive any complaint, we will take action against the arbitrators,” he said.
