Assault on Munshiganj UNO

Update : 10 Apr 2014, 09:34 PM

The Munshiganj police super did not reply within the deadline of the Home Ministry’s show cause notice served to him on March 31 for not cooperating to file a case against an assistant sub-inspector in the district for assaulting an upazila nirbahi officer.

The notice also mentioned why departmental action would not be taken against Habibur for defying the ministry’s order, and asked the police official to reply in seven working days.

The notice was served to SP Habibur Rahman who missed the deadline yesterday.

During the elections on March 23 Louhojang police station ASI Md Emdad reportedly assaulted UNO ATM Mahabubul Karim of Gajaria upazila in Munshiganj.

On March 27, the Home Ministry sent a letter asking Habibur Rahman to cooperate in filing the case against the ASI.

“We have not got any reply, and action will be taken as per the rules,” CQK Mustaq Ahmed, senior secretary of the ministry, told the Dhaka Tribune over the phone yesterday.

A few days back, Habibur Rahman was withdrawn from Munshiganj for negligence in carrying out his duty to contain violence during the upazila poll in Gazaria upazila.

He had been attached to the Police Headquarters in Dhaka.
