A leader of Bangladesh Chharta League has sustained bullet wounds during a gunfight with a team of Kotwali police in Kharki-Bamonpara area in the district on Friday evening.
The bullet-hit Assistant Treasurer of Jessore district unit BCL Hafizur Rahman Hafiz has been admitted at Jessore Medical College Hospital immediately after he received bullet.
Emdadul Haque Sheikh, officer in-charge, Kotwali police station said: “Acting on a tip-off, police raided Kharki-Bamonpara area in order to arrest Hafiz, who is wanted in two cases. But sensing the presence of the law enforcers, he opened fire.
In retaliation, police fired back, leaving Hafiz injured,” he added.
Later, police recovered a foreign pistol from his possession, said the police officer.
