At least one person was killed and over 100 houses were damaged as a nor’wester swept over Patnitala village in Naogoan in the early hours of yesterday.
Local people said all of a sudden the nor’wester swept through the village at 1am. During the storm, three people were injured as a wall collapsed on them.
Of the injured, Shahidul Islam, 35, was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he died.
In the storm, over 100 thatched houses have been damaged, several trees were uprooted, paddy, vegetables and mango, betel leaf gardens were damaged. The electricity service had remained suspended till yesterday morning.
Our Khagrachhari correspondent reports: A man was killed and his son injured as a thunder bolt struck them in Garitana area under Manikchhari upazila in Khagrachhari yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Durgadhon Tripura, 55 and his son was Mankumar Tripura, 25.
Officer-in-charge of Manikchhari police station Keshob Chakraborty said the thunder bolt fell on them while they were working at their tea stall. Durgadhon died on the spot and Mankumar is undergoing treatment at Manikchhari Upazila Health Complex, the OC added.
In Cox’s Bazar, two salt growers were killed when a thunderbolt struck them in Chhanua area under Pekua upazila yesterday morning.
Officer-in-Charge of Pekua police station Habibur Rahman said Jamal Hossen and Mohammad Taufiq had died on the spot after they were struck by lightning. They were working at a field.
In Mirsarai, Siddiq Ahmed, 42, was killed after being hit by a thunderbolt in Charsarat area.
Locals said he was critically injured as a lightning struck him when he was at a cow-shed.
