A vested interest group is constructing a warehouse after illegally occupying land of Dinajpur Road and Highway Department (RHD) in Sahebganj area under Sadar municipality in Dinajpur under the very nose of the district administration.
Earlier in 2001, a baily bridge was built over Kartoa river of Ghoraghat upazila of the district.
Then authorities of Gaibandha the RHD constructed a road at the eastern side of the bridge for creating direct road communication with Ghoraghat and Hili land port with Gaibandha.
Besides, authorities of Gaibandha RHD acquired 26 decimals of land from a total of 33 decimals from the both sides of the road owned by Nur Hossain Master, a resident of Ghoraghatupazila.
But the influential quarters have been erecting a big go-down on a total of 33 decimals of land belonging to Nur Hossain Master.
Nur Hossain said he had been trying to create attention of the district administration, but the authority is yet to take any action against the encroachment.
Authorities of Dinajpur RHD have built a culvert for drainage. But the southern part of the culvert is blocked for the construction of the warehouse, local sources said.
Locals said, the building is being constructed without the permission of the municipality authorities.
Local people are apprehending that they would have to face waterlogging in the rainy season.
Convener of Ghoraghat Awami League Abdur Rahim lodged a complaint with the municipality seeking measure against the illegal occupation.
Later, he along with Ghoraghat Upazila unit Awami League President and Bulakipur Union Parishad Chairman sent a letter to the upazila nirbahi officer to look into the matter.
On Wednesday, authorities of RHD visited the spot. They said they would take legal actions through upazila land office.
