Girl killed in Hatirjheel, 5 others across country

A 12-year-old girl was crushed under the wheels of a speeding car last night on a road at Begunbari, on the bank of Hatirjheel Lake in the capital.

The victim was Sitha Akhter, a class V student of a school in Netrokona. She came to Dhaka four days back to see her elder sister at Begunbari.

Md Nayan, an elder brother of the victim, said the car hit Sitha from behind and sped away immediately. “Sitha was roaming around there like every day,” he said.

She was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital by the pedestrians and the police where the doctors declared her dead.

Two other people were killed in separate accidents in the capital’s Mirpur and Pallabi. Of them, Mahbub-ur-Rahman, 30, was found dead on the road at Section 10 of Mirpur around 5am. The body of another person named Anwar Hossain was found in front of a Chinese restaurant in Pallabi in the morning.

A person was killed and four others injured when a motorcycle and a CNG auto-rickshaw collided head-on in Nabinagar area in Sherpur town. In Habiganj, a truck ran over two pedestrians leaving them dead on the spot.

In Sherpur, the victim was identified as Milon Mia, 30. The incident took place around 9:30am. The injured were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. One of the injured was in a critical condition.

Our Habiganj correspondent reported that identities of the victims killed near Madhabpur Bazar on Dhaka-Sylhet highway around 6pm. They could not be identified immediately.
