Update : 02 Apr 2014, 02:01 PM

Unremitting stalking by local youths has led yet another young girl to kill herself at Jurain area in the capital on Tuesday night.

The victim was identified as Shubha Akhter, 16, daughter of Sohrab Bepary of Shibchar upazila in Madaripur district.

Family members said Shubha committed suicide by hanging herself with a scarf from a ceiling fan at their Jurain house.

Shubha’s mother Taslima Akhter Tajel alleged that four to five local youths, including Shaolin, Al Amin, Mithun and Masum, assaulted her daughter physically at around 10:30pm Tuesday while she was on the way to the house.

“After reaching home, she informed me about the harassment and went to her room around 11:30pm,” she added.

Later, the family members found her hanging with the ceiling of the room around 3:30am and rushed her to Dhaka Medical college Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared her dead, said victim’s mother.

Sub-inspector Maidur Rahman of Kadomtoli Police Station said: “A case has been filed in this connection and the police arrested one of the accused Masum.

Masum is being interrogated and police is trying to arrest rest of the stalkers,” he added.
