12-yr-old allegedly violated, accused at large

Update : 31 Mar 2014, 08:02 PM

A 12-year-old girl was allegedly violated by three youths in the capital’s Sipahibagh area Sunday night.

Jewel, Akash and Shipon have been accused by the girl’s mother of perpetrating the offence. All three are aged 15-18 and live in Sipahibagh.

The girl, a third grader who lives in a slum, was admitted to the one-stop crisis centre (OCC) at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Afroza Begum, coordinator of the OCC, said the condition of the victim had improved and samples have been sent for testing.

The girl’s mother said Jewel, Akash and Shipon violated her daughter when she went to a nearby shop to purchase paper for her younger sister at around 11pm on Sunday.

“It was getting late and she didn’t return. So we went out looking for her and found her unconscious in an abandoned place,” said the mother, adding: “Sensing her condition, we took her to DMCH in the early hours of yesterday and doctors admitted her to the OCC.”

The mother said that Jewel, Akash and Shipon forcibly took her daughter with them, violated her and then fled, leaving her unconscious.

A case was filed yesterday evening against the three in this connection.

In reply to a question, the mother said they delayed filing the case, as the three had threatened them about going to the police or lawyers.

Sub-inspector Atowar Hossain Mondol of Khilgaon police station said the mother registered the case against three youths.

“Right after the incident, all three went into hiding but we are trying to nab them”, said Atowar.
