A local leader of the Jubo League has been shot dead by miscreants in front of a voting centre in Lakshmipur Sadar upazila hours before upazila poll in the area.
The dead was Kabir Hossain, 30, son of Sakhawat Ullah from the upazila and a local ward president of Jubo League, the youth front of ruling Awami League.
Locals said Kabir was shot dead while putting up electoral posters near Durgapur Government Primary School polling station on Sunday night.
Lakshmipur Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Iqbal Hossain said he had come to heard of the news on Monday morning. “Police have been sent to the spot.”
However, it remained unclear as to who killed the local Jubo League leader just hours ahead of upazila election in the area scheduled from Monday morning.
Meanwhile, voting through Lakshmipur Sadar upazila began from 8am on Monday, Returning Officer Mohammad Shahadat Hossain said.
