A drug peddler was arrested yesterday for allegedly raping a girl in Sadar upazila of Kurigram district.
Police and locals said Dail Alam, 25, son of Nurul Islam, took the schoolgirl to an under-construction building by luring her into giving food during school tiffin break and raped her last Sunday.
The victim’s parents wanted to hide the matter first, however they are now demanding punishment to the culprit as their daughter has fallen ill.
The locals detained the rapist and handed him over to the local police.
The victim was taken into police custody for physical examination.
Locals said Alam had once fled police custody after being detained on charges of phensidyle business.
Sub-Inspector Abdul Gafur of Kurigram Sadar police station said: “We will file a case against the detainee on charges of raping a minor girl.”
