Customs officials of Shah Amanat International Airport yesterday seized 923 gold bars weighing 107-kg from a flight and detained ten people in connection with the incident.
The detainees are Mohin Uddin, Piarul Islam, Shafiq Islam, Imtiaz Khan, M Yikub, Nahid Talukder, Monsur Islam, Rahim Sikder, Hasan Mahmud and M Faisal.
Acting on a tip-off, the officials searched one passenger of a Bangladesh Biman flight from Dubai and recovered some gold bars stuffed in a poly bag, said Masud Sadik, commissioner of Chittagong Customs House.
Later, they searched all of the passengers of the flight and found similar bags from six others. The total number of gold bars seized stood at 923, worth about Tk46.15cr, Masud added. Police suspected that the detainees might have been used as courier and a case was launched against them.
