A mother has allegedly drowned her three-year old son in a pond at the Paikmaria area under sadar upazila in Narail early on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Abdullah, 2, son of Jashim Kazi.
Neighbours said Rikta Begum dumped her son in a pond while fleeing from the house in the early hours of the day.
They claimed that she might have killed her son because of an extra marital affair or over a family conflict.
Sadar police station Office-in-Charge Amir Toimur Elli said: “We have detained Rikta. Details about the matter can only be disclosed after investigation.”
