4 killed, 40 injured in different incidents

At least four people were killed in different parts of the country while 41 sustained injury.

Police rescued a dead body yesterday morning from the back side of Syed Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), our Sylhet correspondent reports.

The deceased was identified as Bacchu Mia, 28, son of Ijjat Ullah of Borogol village.

Abdur Rahim, assistant sub-inspector of Airport police station said there were three injuries in the legs along with some others in different parts of the victim’s body.

In Noakhali, a man allegedly slaughtered his wife at village Char Hajari under Companigonj upazila at about 6pm yesterday. The victim was identified as Bibi Kulsum, 20, daughter of Farid Mia of same village.

Md. Sajidur Rahaman, officer in-charge of Companigonj police station quoting said Md Nur Uddin, son of Md Jinnah Mia married Bibi Kulsum six months ago. She allegedly quarreled with her mother-in-law regarding family affairs.

Later Nur Uddin came to house came to know about this and charged Kulsum why she misbehaved with his mother. Consequently he started beating Kulsum and after sometime he slaughtered her.

Being informed police went to the spot and recovered the body. Locals handed over Nur Uddin to the police.

The body was sent to Noakhali Medical College Hospital for autopsy. A case was filed with the police in this connection.

Meanwhile, land dispute between two groups led to the injury of 30 people at Kamrapur area of the Sadar municipality area in Habiganj. Our Habiganj correspondent said 10 people were admitted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital with severe injuries.

Selim Ahmed and Saheb Ali of the same locality had a dispute for many days. Followers of the two groups including women locked into a clash yesterday noon centering the dispute.

Indranil Battacharjya, assistant sub-inspector of Sadar Model police station said a person was arrested in this connection. Some 10 people sustained injury and at least 40 vehicles were vandalized yesterday in Habiganj Bus Terminal area in a clash between bus and maxi vehicle workers.

Locals said the clash had erupted from the issue of getting on and getting off of passengers.

Mojjamel Haq, assistant superintendent of police (south) of Habiganj said, “An initiative has been taken to settle the matter.”

In Mymensingh, mob killed two robbers by beating them at Shantiganj under Bhaluka upazila. Another robber sustained injury in the attack.

The deceased robber was identified as Saiful Islam, 30. Locals said mob seized the robbers at Shantiganj Bridge while they were escaping after a robbery at Rampur Bazar in Trishal upazila. Police rescued the rest of the robbers and the truck used in the robbery.
