A victim’s family accused to have been threatened by the family member of a rapist in order to settle the rape issue by 24 hours on Thursday in Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj.
Sohag Sheikh, son of Sekhandar Sheikh, raped a female student on Thursady. The victim is a student of second grade of Mandra Govt. Primary School under Kotalipara upazila of the district. The victim was admitted into Gopalganj General Hospital.
Sahin Sheikh, brother of the rapist allegedly threatened to kill the family members of the victim giving them a 24-hour ultimatum. Sahin Sheikh went to the victim’s residence at yesterday afternoon and terrorised them. The victim’s family is in fear as the rapist’s family is influential in the locality, sources said.
In addition, the family of the rapist vandalized home of Insan Molla and assaulted him as Molla nabbed Sohag after the incident. Family members of the rapist snatched Sohag away from Molla. Homestead of Shankor Bhairoy was also vandalized as he had protested the attack on Molla earlier.
Mother of the victim said, “They have given us an ultimatum of 24 hours to settle the matter. Otherwise, they will kill us. They panicked us by vandalizing homesteads of our neighbours.”
Faria Jaman, a physician of gynaecology department of the hospital, said, “It is primarily assumed that the victim has been violated. The matter will be confirmed after we get diagnosis reports of tests.”
Kotalipara upazila chairman Bimal Krishna Biswas said, ‘’No threat can affect the matter.’’
