One killed in ‘gunfight’ with police

One person was killed in a “gunfight” with police on Saturday in the Pakhimara village of Padmapukur union in Satkhira.

The deceased Ashraf Ali hailed from Kurikahania village.

Shaymnagar police station Officer-in-Charge Sagir Mia told the Dhaka Tribune: “Being tipped off, police rushed to the place where some robbers were planning to rob. Sensing our presence, the robbers opened fire, triggering the clash with the law enforcers.”

Later, police rescued 48-year-old Asraf and sent him to Shaymnagar Helath Complex where on duty doctors pronounced him dead.

Police also claimed that Ashraf was accused in a number of cases.

Superintendent of Police Asraful Islam, who also took part in the “gunfight,” said: “Two police constables Salimullah and Milon were injured in the gunfight.”
